(Nashville, Tenn.) May 27, 2008 – Acclaimed singer/songwriter and New Artist of the Year (39th Annual GMA Dove Awards), Brandon Heath is set to release his anticipated sophomore album What If We on Aug. 19. Teaming up again with producer Dan Muckala, Heath’s What If We follows up his breakthrough debut project, Don’t Get Comfortable, which delivered the No. 1 smash-hit, and Song of the Year nominee, “I’m Not Who I Was,” granting Heath his first nomination for Songwriter of the Year at last month’s GMA Dove Awards.
The 11-song album continues Heath’s signature autobiographical approach to authentic storytelling, intimately sharing moments of loneliness, of triumph, of questioning, and of longing. The album’s thought-provoking title aims to be just that. Heath explains, “All great ideas start with the phrase ‘What If We...’ If anything, I love a title that’s a good conversation starter, but can catch people off guard. It is a little bit left of center.”
The project’s first single, “Give Me Your Eyes” is gaining heat at Christian radio with high-profile markets adding the song out-of-the-box including the WAY-FM Network, WLPJ/Tampa-St. Petersburg, FL; WCSG/Grand Rapids; WMUZ/Detroit; KKSP/Little Rock; WBSN/New Orleans; KXOJ/Tulsa, OK and XM Satellite.
Dave Senes, WAY-FM Network Program Director, notes, “I double-checked the length on ‘Give Me Your Eyes.’ It’s an incredibly hooky four-minute song that feels like it’s over in half that time! It captures the tension we all feel – trying to love others as Christ would while depending on a source of love far beyond ourselves.”
“What If We is set to propel Brandon to the next level in his career,” says Lindsay Williams, editor for CCMmagazine.com, CMcentral.com and ChristianMusicPlanet.com. “It’s a huge step forward from his already impressive debut.” She adds, “His sincere songwriting is what really makes this album stand out. Heath writes with the same candidness and vulnerability that listeners were drawn to with ‘I’m Not Who I Was.’ His knack for story-telling combined with his talent for crafting soulful, thought-provoking art, will allow the songs on What If We to instantly connect with listeners and encourage fans to reach outside themselves to make an impact on the world.”
Brandon Heath quickly became a fixture at Christian radio with the release of his debut project. His mega-hit “I’m Not Who I Was” raced to No. 1 and ended 2007 as one of the year’s most played radio singles. Heath has been a respected writer in the Nashville music community for years, collaborating with well-known artists like Bebo Norman, Matt Wertz and Dave Barnes, to name a few. The Nashville native first began writing at age 13 and credits the town’s legendary hotspot for songwriters, the Bluebird Café, as the place he first experienced music that moved him. Heath currently resides in Houston, Texas, and is a worship leader at The Loft church located in The Woodlands, just north of Houston.
